The world of anime had been intertwined with Guy's life ever since he was a child. He would run around the house like Naruto and shout Japanese words at his older brother. As he grew up, he dreamed of going to Japan and seeing the cherry blossoms. That dream remains unfulfilled – Guy was kidnapped on October 7th from the Nova party and is still being held captive by Hamas.
The film drifts between harsh reality and the boundless realms of imagination – between the moments of the abduction, depicted almost precisely based on real videos that were published on Telegram, and the long moments that followed – about which we know nothing. What is he going through in captivity? How is he passing the time?
We focused on the hope that Guy finds refuge in the imaginary worlds he created for himself, inspired by the anime films and Japanese culture he loves.
